Discover KUKU Kanvas

Born in Hoedspruit, South Africa’s Big Five capital and infused with a passion for all things safari, Kuku Kanvas is a natural extension of Kuku Interiors, bringing no small amount of talent and flair to the art of making khaki canvas look good.

Mike, Bianca and Jana have a staggering combined experience in the safari and hospitality industries, particularly where tented camps and interiors are concerned, creating a formidable team at Kuku Kanvas that’s driven by a commitment to customer service and quality. It’s this dedication to each project that ensures the end product is delivered flawlessly with attention to detail at every stage of the process, from concept to completion.

Located at a brand-new 650m2 workshop conveniently situated in the centre of Hoedspruit, Kuku Kanvas is ready to take on all of your canvas needs, from safari tent design, creation and installation to the re-upholstering of open safari vehicles and everything in between.

Our love of the African wilderness and its wild fauna and flora made it easy for us to dip into the bush for inspiration when it came to choosing our mascot - the humble honey badger.

Renowned for its determination and true grit it’s a fitting emblem of who we are and the lengths we are prepared to go to in order to make our clients happy.

It’s also a species that needs the limelight at a time when Africa’s wildlife is under enormous pressure and the constant threat of persecution and poaching.

So let Kuku Kanvas give you a fresh start and a blank canvas on which to paint your brand’s story.

We look forward to being of service!

Take your camp from a 3 star camp to a 5 billion star camp - the sky is the limit

FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.
  • Do you come out to measure?

Yes we do. Depending where you are situated there may be a small callout fee to cover fuel and gate fees where applicable. However we recommend sending us pics and images for quoting purposes. We always confirm measurements prior to manufacture.

  • What types of Canvas do you use?

Riptec/Ripstop/Ripblock is a popular fabric throughout the textile marketplace. For those who may not be familiar with it, it is a type of woven fabric, often made of nylon, which uses a special reinforcing technique to make it tear and ripping resistant. Hence, the name “ripstop”. Get it?!

During weaving, some reinforcement threads are woven in a crosshatch pattern to give the fabric the appearance it has.

Ripstop is a collaboration of knowledge of material inputs, manufacturing processes and technical skills, allow Ripstop to be a innovative product that is development for customer specific customisation.

Ripstop  is typically used in making products that are used outdoors: sailing, tents, sleeping bags, flags, banners, just to name a few. Ripstop fabric material can be used as a reinforcing fabric for products or clothes made to be worn for extreme durability or in extreme conditions, such as clothing for firefighters.

The material is also ideal for backpacks, sports clothing, and different kinds of luggage. Ripstop material is water resistant, water-proof, fire resistant, and is impenetrable (will not allow air or water through). Ripstop is a versatile material it comes in a wide range of weights and colours.

Fabric weight is normally expressed in grams per m2 and are typically:

    300-320 gsm

    400-440 gsm

    500-550 gsm

  • How long does Canvas last?

Modern canvas should last between 3 to 5 years depending on its location. However if under shadenet we have seen many canvas structures that are 12 years + and still looking good

  • Is Canvas waterproof?

Yes our canvas is waterproof, however if stitched it may leak through on the seams

  • How do I care for my Canvas?

Where possible its important to keep ripstop out of direct sunlight. To clean use a light solution of soapy water. Do not use chemicals as this can degrade the surface as well as bleach the color

  • How long will it take to get done?

It all depends on the size of the job and how busy our workshop is. We normally take between 7 & 14 days to complete most custom jobs. *T&C's apply. Always check with us first
